The popular methods for carpet cleaning in this area were to whack the dirt out of the carpets using a rattan rug beater, carpet rod, or even the pain staking method of using a broom. This system was improved upon with the vacuum cleaner, which still continues to improve today.

Around the 1950s companies began using steam to clean carpets. This routine is still predominant today, especially with companies that offer carpet cleaning services for your home, office, or anywhere else with a carpet flooring . Steam cleaning is also commonly referred to as hot water extraction too. There are several distinct variations of this technique depending on which carpet cleaning company you settle upon , some are even environmentally friendly. mainly hot water extraction uses a detergent that is applied to the carpet and given time to soak before a machine is used to remove the detergent and soil from the carpet.

Another general method of carpet cleaning is dry cleaning carpet systems; these use very little moisture to clean carpets. This process has gained its popularity because of its shorter drying time. Several other methods that are used for cleaning carpets today include dry compound, encapsulation, bonnet and shampoo.

Carpet cleaning services will continue to be popular as long as people still enjoy carpeting and rugs in their homes. The methods may advance and change in the future, but one thing will stay the same and that is the satisfaction of seeing and feeling of a professionally cleaned carpet.
